RESEARCH PLAN
Work Package 6: Management and valorisation of the residual biomass.
Work package leader: Dr. Miguel Rodrigues (UTAD, Portugal).
Objectives
The objective of the WP is to generate added-value products from legume grain production residues. Additionally, crop management tools are expected to be developed in order to mitigate greenhouse gases emissions.
Background
The production of legume grains generate high amount of fibres residues that could have potential benefits. A series of field experiments extended in a time-frame of four years will be conducted with selected varieties of the three legumes, in order to evaluate the effects of these residues, using different approaches. In this way, the added-value of the residues will be evaluated, taking into account it utilization in animal feeding, studying its effect on the availability of N to the following crops and the carbon sequestration as well as greenhouse gas emission.
